I was wondering what's BOM(Bill of Material).

Dear As yet i read the topic i-e " use of Alternate Item" it tells that when u need other items so u can make an alternate item group and add this. so what do u suggest me.

Dear Aftabmohiuddin,

SAP does not allow zero quantity in the component material of a Bill Of Material (BOM). For your requirement, you can either:

• delete the zero qty from the component of BOM and add it later when you need it, or
  
• you can put the qty for that component and modify the "valid from" and "valid to" fields as you need to. For example, start from today (October 31, 2008) you don't want that component be counted as component for the BOM, you can put "october 30, 2008 in "valid to" field. So, if you use this BOM (let say in the MRP run today), SAP will not count the requirement of that component. Later you can change the "valid from" and "valid to " fields if you need to count that component in the BOM.

Why the system cannt take zero (o) quantity against material in BOM creation. when i enter zero it generate message "Enter the Value"

Actually i want to add a material in BOM and make other similar item to zero quantity for future use might be.
